Get Out the Vote

While the rest of the world concentrates on Bush/Kerry 2004, New York's Parsons School of Design revisits the 2000 presidential election—with humor and style. The curator of "The Voting Booth Project," Chee Pearlman, invited architects, designers, and artists to reimagine 50 actual machines from Florida polling sites, and Robert A.M. Stern, David Rockwell, Diane von Furstenberg, et al., responded by embellishing the portable four-legged Votomatics with materials ranging from mirrors and rubber to corduroy and rice paper. Through November 15; 212-229-2101; parsons.edu/voting_booth.
For those who'd like to vote with their wallets, Parsons plans to auction a selection of the machines. Proceeds will benefit the school and Declare Yourself, a nonpartisan outreach program for young voters. October 27; 310-274-7800; declareyourself.com.
