Best of Year Winner, City Residence: Shelton, Mindel & Associates: Manhattan Rooftop Duplex, New York, NY

An immaculate penthouse bolsters the already impressive portfolio of Interior Design Hall of Fame members Peter Shelton and Lee Mindel. Floating in a two-story volume, a white-oak staircase with a powder-coated steel balustrade rises from the foyer, through a dining area furnished with a 1960's Phillip Lloyd Powell table and 1955 Joaquim Tenreiro chairs, to emerge in the media room. Other mid-century furniture includes the media room's Egg chairs by Arne Jacobsen and the entry's console by Jean Prouvé. Architectural gestures break down the immense space, 4,400 square feet, into comfortable zones. Anigre, the dominant wood, anchors the majority of rooms. A bronzed fireplace surround spans the entire width of the living area. And runs of bay windows, Mindel says, "organize the views like an urban necklace."

MICHAEL NEAL; GRACE SIERRA; NATHAN SOMERA; ZORA BOYADZHIERA; PAULA YOUNG: PROJECT TEAM.
