Rooted in the tenets of European modernism yet sensitive to the cultural, technological, and climatic conditions of the United States, Vienna-born Rudolf Michael Schindler (1887-1953) was instrumental in the development of modern design in California. On view from February 25th through June 3rd at Los Angeles's Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) at California Plaza, The Architecture of R.M. Schindler is the first in-depth survey of the architect's innovative and influential career. The exhibition will include more than 100 original drawings and approximately 15 architectural models in addition to numerous furniture designs, new and archival photographs, and a full-scale reproduction of a 1937 beach house.
The Museum of Contemporary Art at California Plaza is located at 250 Grand Street. For information call (213) 626-6222.
