Irish Ahead

Staff -- Interior Design, 4/1/2001 12:00:00 AM

SINCE THE EARLY 1990s, the Dublin-born musician, sculptor, and designer Peter O'Kennedy (who also happens to be designer Clodagh's son) has been making music, creating installations for nightclubs and restaurants around Ireland, and exhibiting his work in Argentina and France. O'Kennedy was the drummer for the band Golden Horde and a founding member of the cult Cork band Nine Wassies From Bainne. With no formal design or architecture training, he became an artist in residence at The Irish Museum of Modern Art in 1998, and in 1999 he completely designed the Gubu bar, from the cast-concrete bar to the cutting-edge fiber optic lighting. Primed to take on the United States, O'Kennedy's latest creations will be exhibited at Clodagh's design studio this May. Check out the floor version of the Big Sis light and the teak and concrete 301 Plugs that rotates 360 degrees. Clodagh, 670 Broadway, New York, NY 10022.
