Glass of the Sultans, a landmark exhibition of Islamic glass objects, marks the 50th anniversary of the Corning Museum of Glass in Upstate New York. On view from May 24th through September 3rd, the exhibit features more than 150 rare and ornate pieces, most of which were crafted in modern-day Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Egypt. The show presents utilitarian objects as well as ceremonial pieces created for the sultans to illustrate the breathtaking skill and advanced techniques used by Islamic craftsmen from the seventh through the 19th centuries. The exhibition will next travel to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where it will be on view through January 13, 2002.

The Corning Museum of Glass is located at One Museum Way in Corning, New York. For information, call (607) 937-5371.
