Last week, the New York State Assembly passed the Interior Designer Title Act legislation, calling for education, experience, and examination requirements for the practice of interior design in New York State.
The law states non-liscenced practitioners who have not met interior designer requirements should not have use of the interior designer title—instead, titles should be interior decorator or space planner.
With Governor Pataki’s signature, the bill, number S2514, will go into law—but the governor vetoed a similar bill last year.
In an effort to sign the bill into law, the American Society of Interior Designers has issued a model letter supporting the bill.
Interior Designers can modify the letter, print it on personal letterhead, and send. For more information, call 800-392-8654.
We would love your feedback!
