Catch these events in February and March

1. Robert Vizzini has hit a new low. "Death Valley: Photographs by Robert Vizzini," at New York gallery Clampart, assembles his images of the arid California landscape that is the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere. His gelatin silver print Late Morning Light. 1 is stark but warm-toned. February 17–March 26; 646-230-0020; clampart.com.

2. In "Focus: Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle," the Art Institute of Chicago presents a multimedia artist who earned his MFA from the museum's school. Since then, he has attained international recognition for exploring subjects from digitized DNA to Miesian architecture. This show centers on a two-story aluminum "iceberg" based on a real one in the Labrador Sea. February 17–May 14; 312-443-3600; artic.edu.

3. The UCLA Hammer Museum, Tinseltown's preeminent champion of the cutting edge, is bringing together 20 up-and-comers for "Thing: New Sculpture From Los Angeles." Breadface, baked by Matt Johnson in cast plastic and oil paint, is among the provocative works involving revolutionary materials and techniques. February 6–June 5; 310-443-7000; hammer.ucla.edu.

4. Just when video art seemed poised to conquer all, "The 48th Corcoran Biennial: Closer to Home" celebrates a return to the traditional in method, content, or material. The 15 artists—all hailing from the environs of the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.—include Richard Rezac, who created Seated in cast polyurethane and painted wood. 5. "Zandra Rhodes: A Lifelong Love Affair With Textiles" dresses up the designer's Fashion and Textile Museum in London. Her sketchbooks, silk screens, and garments are appearing alongside photographs of celebrity clients and Rhodes herself. This one was taken backstage at a 1977 show. 6. Helene and Joseph A. Chazan reveal their generous spirit in "Chazans' Choice: Gifts of Contemporary Art to the RISD Museum," at the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence.
