3form Names Winners of People's Choice Installation Contest

North Carolina's Jacksonville Mall took home the first place in the commercial category while Dorado Designs was selected in the residential category.

Architectural materials specialist 3form is living up to its name by naming three projects winners of its 4th annual People's Choice Installation Contest for their sculptural forms.

Visitors to the hardware manufacturer's website whittled down 134 commercial and 68 residential project submissions from South America to Asia to select AC Martin Partners Rio Hondo Screen the grand prize winner.

Located in the lobby of the Rio Hondo College Library in Whittier, California, the sculptural screen replicates a rushing steam—a play on the "rio" in the school's name. The California-based architects utilized neutrally tinted 3form Varia Ecoresin in Shapes in Valley to achieve the ethereality of the centerpiece, which was installed with 3form Suspend Hardware.

Meanwhile, Create Architecture's met a $10,000 budget by installing a 3form Light Art fixture at the entrance to the Jacksonville Mall in North Carolina and in the process took home first place in the commercial category. Made from ribbon-like strips of 3form Varia Ecoresin in Firefly, the vibrant red material shines straight through the lobby's two-story glass curtain wall.

 

The top prize in the residential category went to the hood enclosure Dorado Designs fashioned out of 3form's Creekside Glass for a home in Tucson, Arizona. The three quarter-inch-thick patterned glass created a dramatic focal point for the home.

"It's great to see all of the different applications of 3form and how the use of the product has evolved," says Jill Canales, 3form's senior vice-president of marketing and design. "From walls, to artistic accent pieces, 3form gives projects brand identity and adds value."
