Good Design Awards Announced

The awards program was founded by Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. in 1950.

The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design has announced the recipients of the 2007 Good Design awards, the annual awards program recognizing the most advanced and innovative products and graphics for the year.

A record number of entries came in from 33 countries for the 2007 awards program. A total of 400 awards were bestowed.

The Merge Powerplay table from Allsteel, the Spoon chair from Antonio Citterio Architetto, the T-Table from Studio Patricia Urguiola, and the Pool Modular Bench product line from Bius are among winners in the furniture category.
In the floorcovering category, winners include Little Field of Flowers from Studio Tord Boontje, Ply from Carsten Gollnick Product Design + Interior Design, and Circulinity Compenent Rubber Tile from Joe Visintin, Johnsonite.

Categories include the latest design innovation in electronics, medical equipment, transportation, furniture, textiles, industrial machinery, public environment, hardware, tools, bath and accessories, kitchen/appliances, floor covering, tabletop, household products, personal, office products, children’s products, sports and recreation, lighting, and graphics.

The 2007 Jury was composed of: Claes Appelquist, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, New York; George Beylerian, president, Material Connexion, New York; Joan Blumenfeld, president, director of interior design, Perkins & Will, New York; Robert Goodwin, design director, Perkins & Will, New York; Susan Hakkarainen, president, Ivalo Lighting, Cooperburg, Pennsylvania; Phil Harrison, president and CEO, Perkins & Will, Atlanta, Georgia; Nancy Perkins, Jarden Consumer Solutions, Boca Ratan, Florida; and Chip Reeves, director of design programs, Dow Corning, Midland, Michigan.
