The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has a new president-elect: Mitchell E. Sawasy, executive vice president and design/principal of Los Angeles-based Rothenberg Sawasy Architects. He will lead the 12,000-member IIDA in 2008.
Knape & Vogt, which designs, manufactures, and distributes functional hardware, storage-related components, and ergonomic products has acquired WorkRite Ergonomics, a designer, manufacturer, and marketer of ergonomic office products. Knape & Vogt is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan and owned by Wind Point Partners.
Architecture, engineering, and design firm RTKL Associates has been purchased by Dutch engineering and consulting company Arcadis, based in Arnhem, the Netherlands.
David Hunting Jr., a former executive for office furniture manufacturer Steelcase died July 10 at the age of 81. He was the mind behind several of the company's subsidiaries, served on the board of trustees, and was the son of company founder David Hunting.
Silas H. Rhodes, founder and chairman of the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York died June 28, at the age 91. Rhodes co-founded the Cartoonists and Illustrators School in 1947, renaming it the School of Visual Arts in 1956.
Design firm Brennan Beer Gorman / Architects (BBG) and Brennan Beer Gorman Monk / Interiors (BBGM) has five promotions. Kai Sheng is partner and Philip Davis, Shane Michael Murray, Tony Machado, and Caroline Bertrand are associates.
Professional lighting and office furniture agency ELC Contract is the new Chicago sales representative for lighting manufacturer Luxo Corporation.
Hakee Chang joins the San Francisco office of architecture and interior design firm Pollack Achitecture as associate.
DeStefano and Partners has 20 senior associate and associate promotions and one new appointment. Promoted staffers are: Insung Chu, Melissa Clark, Leona Ketterl, Gabriela Miramon, Amy Struckmeyer, Srdjan Avram, Randal Cartwright, Jeffrey Fazzone, Li Jin, Simon Juska, Nathan Kozlowski, Masha Safina, Matt Snoap, Melissa Sheahan, Eric Gardner, Jason Halaby, Daniel Huang, Hobum Lee, John Nimry, and Gao Qiu. Mary Jo Graf has been named director of marketing and public relations.
John Sacks, former managing director of the office furniture manufacturer Arenson Group, has re-started JSA Consultancy, London, the contract furniture consultancy business he originally set up in 1997.
Outdoor furniture manufacturer Woodard, headquartered in Chicago, is undergoing a strategic evaluation. Owners--the Crown family--have dropped the majority of their golf and theater operations.
Interior designer Roxanne DeCoster returns to KKE Architects as a senior designer in the Interiors Group. DeCoster has 28 years of experience, the majority with KKE.
Jennifer Lemler is business development manager in the Southeast for furniture manufacturer Allsteel.
Furniture manufacturer Kimball Office has appointed Kim Fritch director of marketing, research, and communications.
Flooring and vertical surfacing products manufacturer Lonseal has appointed Gregg Nord director of manufacturing specialty sales.
