Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 5/1/2006 12:00:00 AM

The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design is now accepting applications, due June 1, to its 2006 Good Design Awards. Recognizing the latest industrial and graphic designs by prominent American, European, and Asian designers and manufacturers, the awards are some of the most prestigious in the industry.

Products designed or produced from 2004 to the present are eligible, including: office and residential furniture, housewares, lighting, appliances, transportation, consumer products, business and industrial equipment, hardware/tools, machinery, electronics, communications and medical equipment, computer equipment, and environmental design. All entries must have been manufactured or scheduled for production.

Eligible graphic and packaging design produced and/or designed from 2004 include: books, magazines, advertisements, catalogues, handbooks, posters, and digital and media interfaces.

Winning submissions, which become property of the Chicago Athenaeum’s permanent design collection, will be exhibited in 2007.

The Good Design award program was initiated in Chicago in 1950 by Edgar J. Kaufmann, Jr., former curator of the Museum of Modern Art. Last year, the Chicago Athenaeum received hundreds of applications from 40 countries. Over 200 products and graphic designs were honored by a distinguished jury of recognized architects, designers, and authorities in the design world.

Each entry must include a $200.00 fee, and should be submitted to: The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, 601 South Prospect Street, Galena, Illinois 61036. For questions call 815-777-4444 or fax 815-777-2471.
