AIA/Los Angeles Announces Restaurant Design Winners

Two winners were selected for the first-ever People’s Choice Award category.

Sprinkles Cupcakes by Andrea Lenardin MaddenThe votes are in for the second annual Restaurant Design Awards. Sponsored by the American Institute of Architects/Los Angeles Chapter, the awards honor excellence in restaurant design. Submissions were accepted for projects located within the greater Los Angeles area, as well as from LA individuals and practices for projects located within or outside the greater LA area.

Winners were selected from nine finalists by a jury including Interior Design deputy editor Edie Cohen; Hagy Belzberg (Belzberg Architects, and recipient of the 2005 RDAs), Heather John (senior editor, Bon Appetit), and Sean Adams (graphic designer, Adams Morioka).

Cut by Richard Meier + Partners ArchitectsIn the restaurant category, the winners are: Cut by Richard Meier + Partners Architects and Houston’s (Santa Monica) by Frederick Fisher + Partners.

In the cafe, bar, and lounge category, the winners are: Sprinkles Cupcakes by Andrea Lenardin Madden; Westfield Century City Dining Terrace by Westfield Design and Rios Clementi Hale Studios; and  (Wide) Band Nomadic Cafe by Griffen Enright Architects.

Two winners were also selected for the first-ever People’s Choice Award category, which received over 1,800 votes. In the restaurant category, the award went to Stack by Graft. In the Café, Bar, and Lounge category, once again, Sprinkles Cupcakes by Andrea Lenardin Madden came out on top.

“From the elegant to the experimental, we were pleased with the caliber and creativity of the projects,” says Cohen.
