Design Miami Announces Event Roundup
A street party will take place Saturday, December 9 in the Miami Design District.

After its successful 2005 premier, Design Miami hits South Florida once again this year. To be held December 8-10 in conjunction with Art Basel Miami Beach, the 2006 show will feature an expanded program including more galleries, satellite exhibitions, and design talks. During the design-packed weekend, special recognition will be given to Marc Newson, the show’s 2006 designer of the year.
The satellite exhibition round up consists of: "Smart Deco" by Droog Design (presented by Barry Friedman), "French Modern Sources" (presented by the Centre Pompidou), "Metropolis View: 25 Years Through the Lens" (presented by Metropolis Magazine), "Glass and Wendell Castle" (presented by R 20th Century and Steuben), "Artectonics: New Age Creativity" (presented by Contrasts Gallery), "Out of True" (presented by Byblos), “Live! From Our Studios” (presented by Moss Gallery) and an exhibition of new designs from Established & Sons.
Attendees seeking to understand both the current state of the design market and the unique steps today's designers make to earn success can attend a series of three talks. Complementing this series, Newson will present “Art Loves Design,” a design talk on Saturday, December 9. Following his speech, the “Art Loves Design” street party, co-sponsored by Art Basel Miami Beach and Design Miami, will take over the design district.
A total of 18 renowned historical and contemporary design galleries will participate in Design Miami, including first-timers Sebastian + Barquet and Phurniture, both from New York. Returning galleries include Antik (New York); Barry Friedman Ltd. (New York); Nilufar (Milan); R 20th Century (New York); Jousse Entreprise (Paris); Contrasts Gallery (Shanghai); and Philippe Denys (Brussels).
Sponsored by HSBC Private Bank, the Design Miami will be held in the in the Miami Design District (Moore Building, 4040 NE 2nd Avenue). On December 7, an invitation-only event will be held at 8pm. The show will be open to the public Friday, December 8 from 1:00pm-7:00pm; Saturday, December 9 from 8:00pm-midnight; and Sunday, December 10 from 1:00pm-7:00pm.
