Public Works

edited by Sheila Kim-Jamet -- Interior Design, 12/1/2005 12:00:00 AM

Residences for actor Ewan McGregor and artist Chris Ofili first attracted British attention to architect David Adjaye. Now, London's Whitechapel Art Gallery sheds light on another facet of his work in "David Adjaye—Making Public Buildings."

The show relies on models and sketches to present both completed and unbuilt projects by Adjaye/Associates, the former including the Idea Store community center and library complex in London, the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, and a pavilion for the 2005 Venice Biennale. Among the latter is his first U.S. building, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, opening in 2006. Films with original scores by Adjaye's brother, Peter, round out the experience. January 24– March 26; 44-20-7522-7888; whitechapel.org.
