IH/M&RS to Feature Futuristic Guest Room

The display will be on view amongst the show's 200 technology vendors.

When the annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show hits New York's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center this November 11-14, attendees won’t only be exposed to the industry’s existing latest and greatest products, they’ll also get a glimpse into the future. Guestroom 2010, an innovative prototype hotel room, will feature far-out technologies such as high-definition artwork that changes according to a guest’s mood and a self-cleaning shower.

The experimental room, which debuted at the 2006 Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference this past June, is a project by the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals. It features 56 different amenities discovered via a worldwide, comprehensive search for cutting-edge technologies.

Futuristic innovations include prototype Ammique—a 21st Century Bed, which uses tension springs instead of a mattress to create a sleeping surface contoured to the body; the Guestroom Digital Assistant, an integrated touch-screen device that allows users to control climate, lighting, drapes, alarm clock, radio, and phone; and Fabric Freshener by Whirlpool, an appliance that removes both wrinkles and odors from travel-weary clothes. Spatially, Guestroom 2010’s layout is based on feedback from frequent travelers: The bathroom is placed at the far end of the room, incorporates natural light, and uses privacy-glass technology.

Guestroom 2010 will be on display in Booth 4062 for the duration of the tradeshow, and will complement IH/M&RS’s 200 technology exhibitors, who will feature innovations such as business center services, check-in kiosks, high-definition TVs, and state-of-the-art security systems.

IH/M&RS opens November 11 with a full-day of conference and networking activities. Three days of exhibits will present some 1,250 hospitality industry suppliers and attract approximately 35,000 visitors.
