Jessica Miller's Plaza rug redefines the concept of figures on a ground—in this case, shadowy actors on a field of luminous blue. Miller has employed New Zealand wool hand-knotted in Nepal, and her rug measures 6 by 8 feet, though custom sizes and any color combinations are possible. P.O. Box 882527, Steamboat Springs, CO 80488; 970-870-3030; jmilo.com. circle 335

Ruth Simon McRae's new carpets include Madrigal, a tip-sheared floral; Improv plaid, which underlays a scrollwork; the heavy-textured stripe New Wave; and Easy Street, a bold plaid of rectangles and squares. Ruffian Ridge nylon-polypropylene carpet tiles scrape shoes clean and trap dirt in deep grooves. Ruffian, a brushlike companion tile (6-foot-wide broadloom is also available), finishes the cleaning and drying. The two-carpet system captures more than 80 percent of shoe-born dirt. P.O. Driade
Czech-born Borek Sipek has been heralded as a successor to Ettore Sottsass. True to form, Sipek's Chambord rug is a playful hand-tufted floral approximately 10 feet square. Pachamama
The name Pachamama means "mother earth," so it's not surprising that the company's leather goods are happy, hippy chic. The collection marks the collaboration of Conceria Priante, an upscale tannery in Italy, with the Dutch fashion designer Catherina van Vonderen. What started as a way to reuse leftover leather trimmings has evolved into intricate handworked leather floor cushions, wall tiles, and carpets that can also be hung as wall art. Cosmic interlaces a constellation of padded pancakelike shapes. Individual fringed geometric petals encircle the Lotus rug. Twenty floor coverings accented in earthy bits of horn, brass, and mirror-finished metal debuted during a fair in Abu Dhabi earlier this year. At this year's ICFF, "Everybody said they'd never seen anything like them before," says Meryl Siegman, president of Cortina Leathers, which is distributing the existing line. A more sedate selection of designs arrive this fall. 45 West 25th Street, New York, NY 10010; 800-338-6229; cortinaleathers.com. circle 339
Madeline Weinrib Atelier
In her studio inside ABC Carpet and Home, Madeline Weinrib silhouetted a 1920's French floral fabric for Chime, her cut-pile rug of New Zealand and Tibetan wool. The pattern is 6 by 9 feet; custom colors and sizes are available. 888 Broadway, Sixth Floor, New York, NY 10003; 212-473-3000; abchome.com. circle 340
Junckers Hardwood

Rosemary Hallgarten
British-born rug artist Rosemary Hallgarten had a nomadic childhood (her father was a UN legal counsel). Today she lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, and her work is cross-cultural by design. Her faux Zebra rug may look like a safari classic, but it's actually Alpaca yarn woven in Peru. 34 Crescent Road, Corte Madera, CA 94925; 415-924-1009; rosemaryhallgarten.com. circle 342
Ruckstuhl
The pure wool-felt yardage for Alfredo Häberli's Jamal carpet is just over 5 feet across when it comes from the mill. So Häberli opted to join multiple pieces by inserting a clever laser-cut hinge made from felt in a contrasting color. 21 St. Urbanstrasse, 4901 Langenthal, Switzerland; 41-62-919-86-00; ruckstuhl.com. circle 343
Tarkett
