The program focuses on collaboration and research.

Steelcase is zeroing in on healthcare. This week, the office furniture manufacturer launched Nurture by Steelcase, a new organization taking on the healthcare environment.

Through the Nurture program, Steelcase takes a holistic approach to healthcare design, concentrating on collaboration. Nurture works with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, as well as architects, designers and organizations such as Planetree, and the Center for Health Care Design's Pebble Project. The research and collaboration, Steelcase says, insures “the best possible healthcare environment solutions.”

The Nurture team has already conducted ethnographic research at leading health facilities including Ascension Health, Intermountain Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, Massachusetts General, the Mayo Clinic, and other top Integrated Delivery Networks. In particular, the team gathered information on how caregivers perform their duties and how patients receive their care.

"Nurture concentrates on space and environments and how products within those environments can help make them more comfortable, more efficient and more conducive to the healing process,” says Michael I. Love, president of Nurture.
