Putting brand bombast before service can sink any showroom. Dedar wisely balances creativity and clientele in its 441-square-foot corner in Milan's arty Brera district. Knowing clients choose textiles by color, the fabricant told architect Michele Bönan to display its 500-plus patterns in strict chromatic sequence. Collaborating with Raffaele Fabrizio, the architect son of Dedar founders Nicola and Elda Fabrizio, Bönan referenced a 19th-century library, densely arranged andprecisely organized, with the requisite sliding stepladders.

Against an impartial backdrop of black-lacquered oak shelving, racks, and floors, the fabrics simply explode. However, the snug setting isn't so severe that it can not tolerate flaunts and flourishes, like the vintage chair upholstered in Adamo & Eva velvet.
