The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has come a long way, from humble beginnings at Manhattan's 92nd Street Y to the 44-year-old foundation's current home, near Lincoln Center. Ailey is now dancing its way to even grander digs, just a few blocks south. Set to open in fall 2004, the 77,000-square-foot building by New York–based Iu + Bibliowicz Architects will house 12 studios, a black-box theater, administrative and performers' facilities, and public spaces.
