INSPIREDESIGN Previews Design Beyond Installation

Staff -- Interior Design, 1/28/2010 12:00:00 AM

At next week’s inaugural INSPIREDESIGN in Las Vegas, Interior Design is proud to sponsor Design Beyond, a series of installations representing the future of hospitality and healthcare design. Three leading design firms—Belzberg Architects, Morris Sato Studio, and Gensler—were given the chance to give life to their concept of a public space, hospitality room and bar/lounge (respectively).

Here is a sneak peek of what’s to come:

FILTER by Belzberg Architects
With the ubiquity of networking technology and the ever-shrinking wired world, it seems only logical that the most private of spaces will ultimately be found within the most public spaces. Belzberg Architects' installation, Filter, depicts a futuristic public space by generating a pocket of private space within the public convention hall. With each step deeper in, the participant's relationship to privacy changes and views into—and through—the space are reoriented. Additionally, users become aware that their movement through the installation not only changes their perception of the space, but reciprocally affects the space itself.

BLANK by Gensler
Gensler’s concept for BLANK is based on a simple, forward-thinking notion: that space will become more flexible and personal. Our design for a lounge of the future focuses on creating a canvas for socializing; one derived from the concept of “tabula rasa,” a blank slate. In this environment, people create and interact with the spaces through movement. Elements included in the design are reactive to lighting, perspective and physical interaction. The environment aims to not only inspire but also capture a record of activity. We have created the starting blocks for an environment we hope inspires personalization; one that embraces individuality and self-expression. BLANK is about creating personal space within a reactive architectural environment.

O-SUITE by Morris Sato Studio
For our design of the O-Suite we wanted to create a modular system that is open while being intimate, exhibiting a versatility that could be used in either hospitality or healthcare applications. We think that future accommodations will combine restful comfort with even greater efficiency in sustainable and resilient surfaces and products that will be healthy, clean, and also beautiful. Working with the new metallic colors of DuPont Corian gave our design a little Vegas pizzazz on the outside and the new Corian Designer White rendered the chromotherapy shower brilliantly calm on the inside.
