Market Collection: Star Turns

Karen D. Singh, Alexia Brue, and Sheila Kim-Jamet -- Interior Design, 9/1/2008 12:00:00 AM

Armani Casa's latest collection digs deep into Hollywood's golden age—and meditates on the letter B. Bernini, a chaise longue with a sinuous upholstered seat and retractable leather-covered armrests, looks like just the place for Bette Davis to blow a few smoke rings. The Blush screen's three folding panels, veneered in glossy Macassar ebony, have a noirish moodiness. A black ground sets off the jazzy white asymmetries of Bright, a rug in a mix of rayon and wool, while the black nickel base of the Bizet table lamp improvises on right angles. The collection's other major influence is Eileen Gray, whose Bibendum chair from 1929 was the obvious inspiration behind the Baloon chair's curved tubes upholstered in beige polyester. References aside, every piece is vintage Armani, minimal but enlivened by rich finishes. 212-334-1271; armanicasa.com. circle 424
