Catch these events in September and October

• Contemporary-art fairs travel in packs. If it's December, it must be Miami Beach; in March, it's New York. Which is why Helen Allen, whose Pulse fairs recently entered the fray in exactly those two spots, has decided to stake out her own territory on the calendar, too. Her Art(212) premieres with 60 international participants showcasing paintings, photography, videos, installations, and sculpture—the latter including John Newman's Homespun, shown by the Byron C. Cohen Gallery for Contemporary Art. The place is New York's 69th Regiment Armory, and the timing couldn't be more convenient: 10 days before London's Frieze Art Fair. • Boston's long-awaited Institute of Contemporary Art by Diller Scofidio + Renfro has been delayed again. When final construction details are addressed—predicted for sometime in October—the inaugural shows will go ahead as planned. "Super Vision" surveys paintings, photographs, videos, and sculptures that investigate sight through the fusion of art and technology. Perfectly embodying that combination, Tony Oursler's trademark fiberglass Eyes wink and bat their lashes via video projection. • When artist Tiffany Chung, who grew up in Gardena, California, relocated to Vietnam in 2000, she was stirred by Ho Chi Minh City's urbanization. Blue & Green No. 1, in mylar and paper cutouts on acid-free cardboard, is the colorful result. It's part of her "Beyond Soft Air and Cotton Candy," a sweet treat coming to the LMAN Gallery, a Los Angeles space that focuses on the heritage of Asian-American and Asian artists. • Swiss artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss could have advised their fellow countrymen at Herzog & de Meuron on the firm's expansion plan for the Tate Modern in London. The 11-story stack of glass boxes looks almost as precarious as Outlaws From Quiet Afternoon, a photograph included in the Tate Modern's "Peter Fischli & David Weiss/Flowers & Questions: A Retrospective." • "The Uncertainty of Objects and Ideas: Recent Sculpture" winds through the circular galleries of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. The 40 works are grouped according to artist, with nine sculptors representing a mix of up-and-comers and veterans, such as Franz West. His Caiphas & Kepler in papier-mâché, steel, acrylic, and lacquer references the age-old dialogue between art and science. October 26–January 7; 202-633-1000; hirshhorn.si.edu.
