Here's this week's look at who's doing what and where in the design community.

Global multidisciplinary firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill has enlisted Joseph Phillips and Paul Whitson to lead SOM New York's Health + Science practice. Phillips will be the science and technology practice leader, while Whitson will lead the healthcare sector.

Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects principal Scott Allen has formed Scott Allen Architecture. The new firm is also based in Seattle, and Allen will continue to work on several projects that he led while at his former firm. Allen was with Olson Sundberg for more than 23 years and was managing partner for more than 15 years.

George Hellmuth is the new Mid-Atlantic Region Director for international multidisciplinary firm FXFOWLE Architects. Hellmuth will be based in the Washington, D.C. area.

International architecture and interior design firm BBG-BBGM has named Roderick Petschauer and Ronda McCrea principals. Petschauer will continue overseeing the firms' financial strategy while McCrea assumes responsibility for new business development.

Jon Smith is stepping down as interim president and CEO of Kindel Furniture. Jim Fisher, part of the Fisher family that has owned Kindel since 1964, will serve as CEO for the near future.

Tim O'Brien is the new president of the U.S. division of Zumtobel Lighting. O'Brien was previously vice president of marketing and product development at Cooper Lighting.

Richard Calandrella is the new vice president of business development at workplace furnishings manufacturer Allsteel. Calandrella will be based in the company's New York office, with responsibilities for the Eastern region.

In its first management change in a decade, New York-based architecture and design firm Stonehill & Taylor is promoting three vice presidents. Neill Parker, Michael Suomi, and Christina Zimmer have all been named principals, and are now equity owners of the practice.

Architype is the new sales representative for office furnishings manufacturer Inscape Corporation in the Southern California region.

GK + A Architects director of design Stacey Ruhle Kliesch was installed as the new president of the New Jersey chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
