Kanik Chung

Ordinary objects such as bottles and hourglasses take on unexpected beauty in the hands of Brooklyn-based glassmaker Kanik Chung. The attenuated proportions and simple shape of his vessels evoke a look that is both delicate and architectural. Phone 347-526-5544 for information.

Kosta Boda

Part of the company's limited-edition art-glass collection, Stream celebrates the pure qualities of crystal. The curves and cut of Göran Wärff's kidney-shape piece really dazzle. Also available in pink or blue. Phone 800-433-4167 for information.

Modern Basics

Far cooler than cocktail napkins, Bloom Ultrasuede coasters provide a hip spot to place your drink. Available in 6 colorways. Phone 404-329-0045 for information.

Celine Cannon

Descended from a long line of stone carvers in Dublin, this designer has found her niche stateside, producing collections for Holly Hunt and Donna Karan. We most covet Cannon's signature French-limestone pieces, such as Sphere. Her geometrically spare work has a fine, honed finish, preserving the purity of the material. Phone 646-246-3546 for information.

Boffi

Part of the Minimal series by Giulio Ginaturco, Air is a streamlined beauty. This wood fan features a natural wax finish, and should arrive in the U.S. soon— hopefully in time to battle the first heat wave in style. Visit site.

B&B Italia

Leave it to an Italian to be inspired by an ashtray. But if it works, why scoff? Patricia Urquiola's Fat-Fat and Lady-Fat recall the shape of vintage versions but are large enough to sit on, use as a table, or store objects inside. The polyethylene frame is covered in synthetic fabric, felt, or leather, with a lathe-turned cover in nickel or black finish. Visit site.

Signoria di Firenze

Geometry is of course at the heart of this company's Verner Panton collection of bed linens. A playful mix of stripes and dots, Circle is the most lighthearted pattern of the group. And its 300-thread-count Egyptian-cotton sateen feels as good as it looks. Phone 305-231-9197 for information.

Conrad Imports

This venerable company introduces four designs inspired by the beauty of the sea. All shades are handwoven to order, made of natural wood-pulp fibers, and available in a range of neutrals. Seagrass combines undertones of taupe and weathered green. Visit site.
