We know that the marriage of art and design is one made in heaven, but the Orange County Chapter of American Society of Interior Designers makes the point conspicuously clear with Urban Living @ Astoria, its first-ever tour of a high rise building to benefit the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
While previous ASID/OCC tours have featured single-family homes, this is the first in an urban setting. Running from April 21 to May 17, the tour will feature six living spaces outfitted by 35 designers and two student groups in the Astoria, a new residential complex that’s part of the verdant Central Park West planned community in Irvine, California.

The spaces consist of four penthouse lofts and two flats, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and vast outdoor spaces. The participating designers were each assigned a room or space and a color palate, which included tangerine, mojito, aubergine, pewter, fuschia, paprika, Aegean sea, onyx, and espresso With free rein to create their ultimate urban living environment they went to work designing living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, dining areas, powder baths, and outdoor terraces. Innovative design touches will include stainless steel floors, indoor waterfalls, leather walls, a hand-poured resin floor, custom furniture, and more.
The ASID/OCC also has a swirl of events planned around the tour, including a $150-a-head preview party that will also benefit the Orange County Performing Arts Center, a wine tasting, a fashion show, and a series of "Meet the Designers" Fridays.
