Whether acquiring management responsibilities of an existing hotel or developing a "new build" property with an independent design firm, Starwood is an international company in perpetual motion. The following is a preview of future openings in Starwood's six brands-St. Regis, Luxury Collection, Four Points, Sheraton, Westin, and W Hotels. The development's name, approximate opening date, architect or design firm, key count, and a brief description are provided when available. Some of the designers' sketches and computer renderings have been included to provide a sense of the scale of several of these projects.
NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICA
1. St. Regis Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Opening: 2002

This is the first St. Regis in Florida and the first "new build" hotel for the brand on the East Coast since 1904. Currently, there are 20 private club units and 29 penthouse residences slated to be built on top of the tower complex. This property will also have access to both a yacht club on the Intercoastal Canal and beachfront property on the Atlantic Ocean.
2. St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort, Dana Point, CA

The second St. Regis in California will be the first-ever St. Regis beach resort. The $337 million, 200-acre project will include a beach club, an elaborate day spa and fitness center, and a major eighteen-hole championship golf course.

The top eight stories of the Tampa Bay Westin will be designed as 40 luxury condominiums, in addition to the hotel's 20,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, a full service business center, and a 10,000-sq.-ft. health and fitness club. The highrise's luxury condominiums are a first for the Tampa Bay market.
6. Westin Times Square, New York, NY
Opening: Fall 2002

Designed as two 45-story prisms, the building will have a curved beam of light running from bottom to top projecting well above the Manhattan skyline. More than 200 rooms will feature special-service accommodations, including concierge-level and business traveler rooms.

The hotel's façade will feature a large, rotating "W". Inside, a grand staircase from the ground floor restaurant to an upstairs café will run along a planned two-story concept "clicker wall"-an intricate kinetic sculpture time piece. One half of the wall will consist of "flap leaf" numbers commonly found on analog clock-radios. The numbers in this section will automatically respond to people's shadows walking up and down the stairs. The audio half of the sculpture will react through assigned microphone pickups designed to trigger patterns by sound.

16. Luxury Collection, The Western Cape Hotel and Spa, South Africa

This resort, located 60 miles east of Cape Town on the shores of South Africa's largest lagoon, will offer one of the most interesting nature preserves in Africa. Designed in careful harmony with the surroundings, all rooms will include a view of the lagoon and the abundant wildlife. An 18-hole golf course and gardens will also be included.

17. St. Regis Shanghai

The hotel plans to include a "signature Western style restaurant" that will offer a commanding view of PuDong, the Huang Pu river, and the Bund. The hotel is geared to handle the focused needs (private and business) of traveling business executives.

Key Count: 215 deluxe rooms and suites
Because it will be constructed in the Abandoibarra area-"the heart of Bilbao"-this Sheraton Hotel will include convenient access to the adjacent Euskalduna Congress Center and the nearby Guggenheim Bilbao museum of contemporary art.
