Though a new Van Gogh show seems to open every other week, "Gauguin in New York Collections: The Lure of the Exotic," is New York's first major Gauguin exhibition in 40 years. The city's Metropolitan Museum of Art is displaying 100 works by the artist, best known for his vivid images of exotic locales and his irregularly shaped woodcuts. The exhibition demonstrates his dexterity in a range of media, from painting and drawing to ceramics and sculpture. June 18–October 20; 212-535-7710; www.metmuseum.org.
