Market Micro: Beautiful Barnacles

-- Interior Design, 7/1/2008 12:00:00 AM

 manufacturer: Moss and Lam.

product: Pods.

standout: These handmade porcelain objects embellish vertical surfaces while celebrating unusual organic forms.

Deborah Moss and Edward Lam typically affix their porcelain Pods to vertical panels. Still, the two Canadians are hoping for a commission to fill an entire space with their organic orbs. The design is part of the pair's ongoing exploration of how nature balances structure and geometry with the seemingly random and fluid. "We chose to work with porcelain because of its malleability in handling and hardness after firing," Lam says. "We envisioned the Pods, used together, as a bed of soft barnacles or a field of puffballs." Standard diameters range from 1 to 3 inches, but sizes can easily be customized. Pieces are handmade in-house and installed on-site. Robin Reigi, 212-924-5558; robin-reigi.com. circle 408
