Forming the design equivalent of the superhero Justice League, the Mohawk Group, the International Interior Design Association, and Interior Design are joining forces--not to fight crime, but to battle rising unemployment figures in the A&D community.
The threesome have created Re:work, a nationwide series of free day-long workshops and seminars designed to help out-of-work architects and designers get back to the studio. Running from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the events are scheduled for Atlanta (April 14), New York (April 28), Los Angeles (May 12), Las Vegas (May 15), Dallas (May 27) and Chicago (June 25), with additional locations to be announced.
Participants who register for the program will work with experts on resume writing, financial planning, and interviewing skills, while at the same time earning CEU credits from IIDA. Attendees can also consult with career coaches, and will receive information on local career and job loss-related resources in each city. Established architects and designers will also be on hand to offer constructive industry insight.
"Re:work is our way to try to help architects and designers stay on--or in many cases, get back on--their feet," says Al Kabus, president of the Mohawk Group. “We strongly believe in the importance of helping our customers, peers and friends, especially at a time when it's needed most."
