Auburn University Honors Interface Chairman

The ceremony will take place December third at the United Nations in New York.

Ray Anderson, founder and chairman of carpet manufacturer Interface has garnered yet another award (he is a Hero of the Environment according to Time Magazine). The College of Human Sciences at Auburn University and its international board of advisers have named Anderson the 2007 International Quality of Life Award Laureate for his company's dynamic and prescient environmental agenda. A special awards ceremony will take place at the United Nations in New York on Monday, December third.

The honor is bestowed on "people and partnerships who have made significant and lasting contributions to individual, family, and community well-being, locally and around the world," according to organizers. Past honorees include former United States secretary of state Madeline Albright, Volunteers in Medicine founder and president Dr. Jack McConnell, South African archbishop emeritus Desmond Tutu, and United Nations World Food Programme executive director Catherine Bertini. "All honorees," states an official release, "demonstrate a strong commitment to empowerment through public policy and educational initiatives to enhance quality of life. They are powerful role models…an inspiration to all, but particularly to our young people around the world."

The International Quality of Life Awards launched in 1994 in conjunction with the United Nations' International Year of the Family program.
