Knit One, Pearl Two

Mark McMenamin and Deborah Wilk -- Interior Design, 7/1/2009 12:00:00 AM

Patricia Urquiola has an ace up her sleeve. Or make that four sleeves. Manufactured by the Gan division of Gandia Blasco, her quartet of rug modules is called Mangas—that's sleeves in her native Spanish. Inspired by the arm styles of patchwork sweaters, the modules combine broads bands of knitted or handwoven wool. Rectangular is 5 by 10 or 5½ by 8 feet, lanternlike Farol is 6½ by 11 feet, bell-shape Campana is 7½ by 8½ feet, and spherical Globo is 8 feet across. (All the sizes are approximate.) 34-96-291-13-20; gandiablasco.com. circle 402
