Joe Valerio, founding partner of Chicago-based Valerio Dewalt Train Associates (VDTA), is the 2006 Architect of the Year, says the Chicago Tribune. The only architect, Valerio is one of 16 individuals named in the Chicagoan of the Year program.
The announcement comes on the heels of two prestigious honor awards. For the Kresge Foundation Headquarters in Troy, MI, VDTA received two of AIA Chicago's Top Design Excellence Awards for 2006: A Distinguished Building Award Honor Award and an Interior Architecture Honor Award.
Incorporating modern pavilions into a complex of historic farm buildings, the new headquarters is in the running for LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Its sustainable design features locally produced items, certified wood, and environmentally-friendly recycled products.
In addition to the Kresge headquarters, completed projects for the firm include the Garmin flagship store in Chicago and eBay's North Campus in San José, California.
We would love your feedback!
