MiMo Swings Again

Jen DeRose -- Interior Design, 3/1/2007 12:00:00 AM

Attendees at last year's Art Basel Miami Beach got to see the Morris Lapidus Collection in its native environment when Dennis Miller Associates launched five reissued seating pieces at the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, known as the DiLido when Lapidus completed it in 1953. Famous for postwar glam as interpreted through shapes he christened "woggles" and the like, he archived images in a personal library, which assisted in producing the new designs.

He created the rounded Collins armchair for the lobby of the 1955 Eden Roc hotel in Miami Beach, while the 1963 Island sofa, with its acrylic arms, came from his own apartment. The serpentine two-piece Ocean bench and the companion Alton barrel chair were designed for the lobby of a 1948 Fred Trump apartment building in New Jersey.

The seating is just the start of what's envisioned to be a full line of reissued tables, lighting, and rugs. 200 Lexington Avenue, Suite 1510, New York, NY 10016; 212-684-0070; dennismiller.com. circle 366
