IFDA/NY Awards Design Leaders

On November 7, the New York Chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA/NY) held an evening gala celebrating its 2007 Circle of Excellence honorees.

The annual program recognizes contributions to the furnishings and design industry by leaders including designers, marketers, academics, and publishers. Past winners include designer Jamie Drake; Farooq Kathwari, CEO of Ethan Allen; Gordon Segal, founder of Crate & Barrel; and Sherri Donghia, executive vice president of Donghia Furniture & Textiles.

Claire Coleman, one of the six founding members of IFDA, earned a special recognition award.
 
The 2007 honorees are:
 
Interior Design
Designer Barclay Butera, president and CEO of his namesake firm.

Education
Inge Heckel, president, New York School of Interior Design, New York’s only private, not-for-profit college dedicated solely to interior design education.

Media
Domino Magazine, Deborah Needleman, editor-in-chief.

Online Marketing
Michael Bruno, president and founder of antiques and mid-century decorative arts Web site 1stdibs.com.

Industrial Design
Designer Karim Rashid, principal of his namesake firm.
 
Retail
Eric Villency, president of home furnishings retailer Maurice Villency.
