Meet Me in Saint Louis

Staff -- Interior Design, 8/1/2003 12:00:00 AM

"It" firm Allied Works Architecture, led by principal Brad Cloepfil, has been chosen to design the new Museum of Arts & Design in New York and expand the Seattle Art Museum. But the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis will be completed first. Opening with "A Fiction of Authenticity: Contemporary Africa Abroad," the 27,000-square-foot two-story structure is almost four times the size of the existing museum, with room for three galleries, a performance and lecture hall, an education center, a café, and a bookshop. The new building is located in Grand Center, the city's cultural district, right across a shared courtyard from Tadao Ando's Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts. Opening September 20; 314-535-4660; contemporarystl.org.
