Studio Krassa

Afroditi Krassa's Floating Light restored our belief in the magic of good design. Constructed from a halogen lightbulb that's suspended from a transparent nylon net supporting a helium balloon, the Floating Light proves the simplest, most humble materials can reach great heights (which, by the way, can be adjusted by wrapping the cable around the weighted base). Unit 37, DRCA Business Center, Charlotte Desparde Avenue, London SW11 5HD; 44-207-627-3463.

Ivalo

Designed by Stefano Casciani, this 4-foot sconce is the latest extension of the Aliante collection. Fashioned in aluminum only .062 inch thick, the lamp owes its swooping nautical shape to a cutting-edge automotive stamping technique. The shell is available in satin or brushed finishes with clear or black anodization. Bold painted finishes are also offered. 2300 Computer Avenue, Suite 1-2, Willow Grove, PA 19090; 215-830-1408.

Pallucco

The Faro family of lights includes a number of members: the floor lamps, wall lights, and spotlights shown here. The pieces come in white, black, blue, or high-gloss aluminum finishes. Totem, 83 Grand Street, New York, NY 10013; 212-219-2446.

Jolt

The Jumbo task light features a 13-watt fluorescent lamp, but it provides up to double the standard illumination by incorporating a unique reflective film. Three curved openings in the top surface reveal a color spectrum of diffracted light and decorate the otherwise unembellished lamp. 1261 Wiley Road, Unit I, Schaumburg, IL 60173; 800-526-5658.

Blanche P. Field

In the deft hands of the artisans at Blanche P. Field, lampshades can take on outrageously delightful shapes. The Onion shade shown here was created for designer Nancy Mah to install in Pazo, a tony new restaurant in New York. 155 East 56th Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10022; 212-355-6616.
