Kitchen + bath

Staff -- Interior Design, 9/30/2001 12:00:00 AM

Snaidero: Most modular kitchens rely on a supersleek (sometimes cold and off-putting) aesthetic based on a spare series of interrelated cubes and rectangles. Snaidero loosens things up with Sistema ES, which is dominated by a sexy (and functional) S-curve. Made of a new marine multilayer material, the system has tremendous strength and reliability. Snaidero, 20300 South Vermont Avenue, Suite 125, Los Angeles, CA 90502. www.snaidero-usa.com.

Dornbracht: The Yota faucet, created by Sieger Design for Dornbracht, features a minimalist look with a subtly curved interplay between spout and handle. The cast-brass spout is offered in either a chrome, platinum, or matte-platinum finish. A single mixer is shown, but there is the option of a three tap-hole set. Dornbracht, 1700 Executive Drive, Suite 600, Duluth, GA 30096. www.dornbracht.com.

Duravit: The new Vero sink from Duravit suggests Bauhaus influences with substantial horizontals and clean lines. Good for both public and private areas, it has an integrated backsplash and wall-mounted taps. It measures 23 1/2 in. wide and 15 in. to 18 1/2 in. deep. The company also enlisted the inimitable Philippe Starck to design three new sinks, which are classically inspired, but contemporized with austere but elegant lines. Duravit, 1750 Breckinridge Parkway, Suite 500, Duluth, GA 30096. www.duravit.com.

Kohler: The Stillness series—which includes widespread and wall-mounted lav faucets, vertical spray bidet, deck-mounted bath faucet, and a wall-mounted bath and shower faucet—was inspired by the French modernist movement of the 1930s. Handle levers have been pared down to simple, straight edges mounted on cylinders. The pieces are constructed of solid brass with stainless-steel levers and quarter-turn washerless ceramic valving. Kohler, 444 Highland Drive, Kohler, WI 53044. www.kohler.com.

American Standard: A graceful gooseneck spout and sleek single handle distinguish the Iperbole faucet, part of the Porcher collection. Available exclusively in chrome, it pairs well with above-counter lavatories. American Standard, P.O. Box 6820, One Centennial Avenue, Piscataway, NJ 08855. www.americanstandard.com.

Hansa: The Designo faucet, shown here with a single-lever mixer, is also available with two-handle, widespread, and wall-mount faucets. The polished design conceals Hansa's unique "safety first" cartridge technology that ensures controlled hot water use and energy consumption. Available in all chrome or with cobalt blue accents. Hansa America, 1770 Corporate Drive, #580, Norcross, GA 30093. www.hansametall.com.

Vola: The embodiment of form and function, the impressive Thermostatic Mixer fixture system is shown here with diverter, 1 in. lever, 6 in. spout, and 9 in. by 23¼8 in. metal plate. Also shown: handshower holder. This modular design comes in a variety of combinations. Available through Hastings Tile and Il Bagno Collection, 30 Commercial Street, Freeport, NY 11520. www.vola.co.uk.

Rohl: New to the Country Bath collection with familiar provincial styling are a thermostatic shower valve and a single-hole faucet. The shower valve is available with porcelain or metal levers and comes in various finishes such as chrome, nickel, and Inca brass. www.rohlhome.com.

Heltzer: It's easy to find order with the KuBis panel system. Formed by grids of etched magnetic, stainless-steel panels, the system can be fixed directly to the wall or function as freestanding mobile units. It's ideal for the bathroom or kitchen, where bits and pieces can be neatly tucked away in storage components that connect to the panels with spring-loaded clips. Heltzer, 4853 N. Ravenswood, Chicago, IL 60640. www.heltzer.com.

Rocky Mountain Hardware: This Cirque sink, shown in silicon bronze medium patina, is 18 3/8 in. in diameter and 6 1/8 in. deep. Handmade and sand cast of solid bronze, its simple lines, diverse textures, and natural patinas are reminiscent of Old World cast hardware. Rocky Mountain Hardware, P.O. Box 4108, Hailey, ID 83333. www.rockymountainhardware.com

Triangolo: The sleek Banko kitchen system makes use of traditional materials, like solid natural oak, and employs refined carpentry techniques for a kitchen that is modern, but retains its warmth. Surfaces can be covered in marble, terrazzo, or in more contemporary selections, like stainless-steel and Wilsonart laminates. Many of the components are mounted on wheels for ease of mobility and cleaning. Available through Lafco New York, 200 Hudson Street, New York, NY 10013. www.lafcony.com.
