Ceramic Tiles of Italy at ICFF

from Ceramic Tiles of Italy -- Interior Design, 5/11/2009 12:00:00 AM

For the first time ever, Ceramic Tiles of Italy will exhibit as part of the i Saloni Worldwide contingency at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) from May 16th-19th at the Jacob Javits Center in New York. In collaboration with the Italian Trade Commission and Confindustria Ceramica, Ceramic Tiles of Italy has commissioned internationally acclaimed architect Michele De Lucchi to design the Italian pavilion (booth #1420-1521), which will feature the latest collections of 13 leading Italian tile manufacturers including: Caesar, Casalgrande Padana, Del Conca, Etruria Design, FAP, Impronta, Lea, Lord, Marazzi, Refin, Sant’Agostino, Settecento and Tagina. These companies are continually setting industry trends in formats, finishes and textures as well as technological advancements in production and responsible facility management.

Ceramic Tiles of Italy will celebrate the opening day of the show, May 16th, by offering refreshing gelato and Italian drinks with the architect of the pavilion, Michele De Lucchi, at 4:00 pm. On Sunday May 17th from 2:00-3:00pm, De Lucchi and Paola Antonelli, design curator for the MoMA, will be in the spotlight at the ICFF Theater. The conversation will be followed by a reception in the Ceramic Tiles of Italy Pavilion. The next day, Monday May 18th, Ceramic Tiles of Italy will host a special book signing in the CTI pavilion from 2-3pm with design journalist Jen Renzi to celebrate her new book, “The Art of Tile.”

In addition to their presence at the show, Ceramic Tiles of Italy has organized a unique satellite exhibition at 414 W14th St in the Meatpacking District that will be on view for the length of ICFF. Tying into the Meatpacking’s overall architectural theme, the exhibit will showcase the winners from the 2009 Ceramic Tiles of Italy Design Competition including the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, Cooper Carry, and Baldinger Architectural Studio as well as an inspiring selection of projects from previous award recipients such as Bernard Tschumi and Rene Gonzalez. Ceramic Tiles of Italy will also bring its six tile-clad chairs, designed by Setsu & Shinobu Ito, Michela e Paolo Baldessari, Diego Grandi, Massimo Iosa Ghini, Michael P. Johnson and Paolo Ulian, to the space and co-host a party Sunday, May 17th from 6:00-9:00pm.

Finally, during the show dates, participating Manhattan dealers of Italian ceramic tile will offer special promotions on the latest Italian ceramic tiles. For more information on the show and participating dealers visit www.italytile.com
