BIO

Frank Gehry

Throughout his career, Frank O. Gehry has produced work that is consistently and, at times, defiantly, aloof from the various faddish or scholarly "ism's" that have gripped the architecture and design world. Mr. Gehry's increasingly impressive body of work has proven that total departure from traditional forms and materials need not condemn a project to the level of curious but ultimately insignificant architectural novelty. Mr. Gehry's most compelling gift is, perhaps, his ability to bring an element of excitement, unexpected beauty and humor into projects that, in the hands of less imaginative designers, are usually mired in cookie-cutter cliches and decidedly uninspired attempts at, well, inspiration.

Raised in Toronto, Canada, Frank Gehry moved with his family to Los Angeles in 1947. Mr. Gehry received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of South California in 1954, and he studied City Planning at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

His work has earned him several of the most significant awards in the architectural field. In 1998, Mr. Gehry received the National Medal of Arts. In 2002, Mr. Gehry received the Gold Medal for Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
