Joseph Lembo

With collaborative bonds dating back to 1980, New York-based designers Laura Bohn and Joseph Lembo have produced a wide-range of residential and commercial interiors in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Along the way, Ms. Bohn and Mr. Lembo expanded their purview to include set design for motion pictures and styling for photo shoots.

With degrees in environmetal design—hers from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, his from Parsons School of Design in Manhattan—they have plied their trade with highly personal, signature flourishes: setting antiques against their own minimalist furniture designs; unexpected color palettes; and the use of luxurious fabrics and finishes. The result is a large and diverse body of work, including product design, textiles, and wall coverings, that has been published in interior design books as well as in professional journals, newspapers, and shelter magazines around the world. For their design of fabrics and wallpapers, Laura and Joseph were honored with two Interior Design Roscoe Awards.

Their portfolio has a decidedly international flavor: the V&V Restuarant in Kobe, Japan; retail shops and residences in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Archinet Building in Tokyo, Japan; a farmhouse in Bucks County, Pennsylvania; Angelo Pietro Restaurant in Kyushu, Japan; film sets for "Year of the Dragon" among others. Textile designs for SunarHauserman and Linda Thompson Inc. and furniture for Les Prismatiques round out their exceptional achievements.

In 1995, Mr. Lembo joined Polo Ralph Lauren as design director of the Home Collection. He developed new product lines for Women's Collection, RRL and Men's Sportswear. For Polo Ralph Lauren Home Collection, Mr. Lembo created a design research archive. His research, often conducted internationally, provided creative, inspirational and functional assistance to all departments. During this period, Lembo designed the highly successful Spa Collection that encompassed rattan and upholstered furniture, tabletop, and cotton, techno-chiffon and butcher's linen bedding.

In 1997, Mr. Lembo joined Nautica Enterprises as vice president of Nautica home, creative services, and store planning and design. He provided design consultation to John Varvatos and pioneered Nautica's "Modern Classics" furniture line. In addition, Mr. Lembo contributed design elements for "Latitude/Longitude" fragrance, quarterly market showrooms for Nautica Sportswear, Nautica Men's Jeans, Nautica Women's Jeans and Nautica Boys. He co-designed the celebrated Nautica Concept Store, a 14,000 square foot retail space at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, NYC.

Joseph Lembo lives in New York City and is the founder of Joseph Lembo Design, a firm specializing in interior design and consulting.
