Interior Design Hall of Fame

Lauren Rottet, in her relatively young career, has developed her own brand of design for the corporate interiors constituting her specialty. For Ms. Rottet, corporate design is grounded in precise detailing and what she terms "architecturally derived solutions." These characteristics pervade every Rottet project, be it a facility The Tokai Bank of California, a commercial interior for Walt Disney, or smaller scaled endeavors encompassing offices for the Screen Actors' Guild and various furniture showrooms. While Ms. Rottet's approach is ruled by the modernist ethic honed during her years at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles, it is neither repetitive nor redundant. Each solution is sparked with particular refinements related to client and site. Ms. Rottet's expertise extends beyond interiors to product design. She has created furniture collections for Halcon, Brayton and Bernhardt, carpeting for Lees, and casegoods, in collaboration with Richard Riveire, for Steelcase Woods.

In 1990, following an eleven-year association with SOM, during which time she played a significant role in establishing interior architecture as an independent practice within the firm, she co-founded the Los Angeles-based firm Keating Mann Jernigan Rottet. In 1994, the firm merged with the international architecture and engineering concern Daniel, Mann, Johnson, & Mendenhall (DMJM), bringing an interiors studio to this giant with 35 offices and a professional staff of 1,500 worldwide. The multi-disciplined DMJM Rottet provides programming, strategic planning, project management and interior design for a decidedly broad spectrum of commercial clients.

Ms. Rottet earned a B.A. in Architecture from the University of Texas. She is a member of the AIA, the IIDA, the University of Southern California Architectural Guild and the University of Texas School of Architectural Foundation of Los Angeles and The Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia.

In 1998, she was elevated to the American Institute of Architects' prestigious College of Fellows. Her work has been acknowledged as exemplary by national design associations and professional organizations, and her insight is solicited by design industry consultants, business professionals, and educators. She has been honored by the Architectural Foundation of Los Angeles and The Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia for her contributions to the interior architecture community. Among other distinctions, Ms. Rottet has been appointed to serve on the U.S. General Services Administration's National Register of Peer Professionals, where she is called upon to participate in the selection of projects for the nationwide Design Excellence Program.
